The Green Army made the short trip to Rugby for our first away day of the season, and what a glorious day it was for football. If this season is full of journeys like this one, we'll certainly take them. A short drive, good weather and another new ground to tick off.

Despite the sunshine, there were plenty of nerves amongst the travelling support. Following defeats in our opening league match and then again in midweek, everyone was hoping for an improved performance and, more importantly, our first points of the season.

We received a warm welcome from everyone at Rugby. Around 400 home supporters created a fantastic atmosphere, while the travelling Green Army numbered just ten. The home fans and committee couldn't have been more welcoming – a refreshing experience and certainly friendlier than some of the grounds we visited in the Thurlow Nunn League.

The game started at a high tempo with both sides looking to attack, although Rugby created the better early opportunities.

Unfortunately, the familiar problem from the opening two matches returned in the 12th minute. A free-kick was delivered into the penalty area and, once again, an unmarked header found the back of the net. Another set-piece, another goal conceded, and lessons still to be learned.

FC Peterborough responded well and gradually worked themselves back into the contest. Then, in the 37th minute, came a moment of pure quality.

Aziz picked the ball up around 30 yards from goal and unleashed an unstoppable strike into the top corner. No goalkeeper in the league was saving that one. It was a goal worthy of winning any match, and even the Rugby supporters around us were applauding what they had just witnessed.

The scores were level, but moments later FC Peterborough survived a huge scare. Caught asleep defensively, Rugby somehow missed an open goal, allowing the visitors to head into half-time still level at 1-1.

Overall, it was a fair scoreline. Rugby had edged the better chances, while FC Peterborough continued to look vulnerable from every set-piece. It remains an area that will need improving.

Half-time also gave us the chance to sample the Rugby hospitality. Safe to say Step 5 has raised the standard! A fantastic welcome from the committee, excellent refreshments and cakes that fully deserved a 10 out of 10.

The second half started in the worst possible fashion. A defensive mistake put Sultan under pressure, and a rash challenge inside the penalty area gave the referee little choice but to point to the spot. Rugby converted to restore their advantage at 2-1.

To the players' credit, that setback sparked their best spell of the match.

Whatever was said in the dressing room clearly worked. FC Peterborough began moving the ball with confidence, playing through the thirds and controlling possession. Toby was outstanding at the heart of the defence, while Dom produced an excellent display at left-back, helping shut down Rugby's attacks and giving FC Peterborough a platform to push forward.

The equaliser was a move of real quality. Youngster Ollie produced an excellent through ball to release Derick down the right. Rather than shooting, he unselfishly squared for Aziz, who calmly finished for his second goal of the afternoon.

At 2-2, there only looked like one team capable of finding a winner.

That moment arrived when Aziz drove into the penalty area and was brought down by a Rugby defender. The referee immediately pointed to the spot.

Up stepped Vito, showing real composure to send the goalkeeper the wrong way and give FC Peterborough a deserved 3-2 lead.

There were still nervous moments to come as Rugby pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but Danny produced several excellent saves in the closing stages to preserve the advantage and ensure the three points travelled back to Peterborough.

This felt like a huge victory. After two disappointing results to begin the campaign, FC Peterborough showed real character to come from behind twice, playing some excellent football in the second half and fully deserving the win.

The first points of the season are finally on the board, and hopefully this is just the start.
