First trip to Coventry for the Green Army, but unfortunately not one we’ll be rushing to remember… apart from the cheesy chips.
FCP actually made the perfect start.
Derick produced a lovely flick to send Vitor through, and he made no mistake, placing the ball perfectly past the keeper to give FCP an early 1–0 lead.
Exactly the start we wanted.
Unfortunately, it didn’t last long.
Moments later, despair at the back allowed Coventry Sphinx straight back into the game. 1–1, and all that early optimism disappeared almost as quickly as it arrived.
Things got worse around the half hour mark. Another defensive mistake was punished by the home side and suddenly we were 2–1 down.
From there, Coventry were playing us off the park. Nothing seemed to be clicking for FCP and the home side looked quicker, sharper and far more dangerous.
Half-time: Coventry Sphinx 2–1 FCP.
There was at least one positive from the first half. The Green Army had discovered the cheesy chips.
Exquisite.
No changes at half-time, which came as something of a surprise given how the first half had gone. Calls for David to come on from the travelling fans.
Unfortunately, it was a decision we would soon regret.
Coventry came out and made it 3–1. At this point, there was very little coming from FCP and the game looked like it was drifting away from us.
Then, finally, Big David entered the building.
Almost immediately, FCP started to look more dangerous.
Young Ashley soon joined David up top, and the pair began causing problems for the Coventry defence. Suddenly there was a bit more energy, a bit more threat and, most importantly, something for the travelling Green Army to get behind.
With only a few minutes remaining, David gave us some hope.
And what a goal it was.
A quality finish to make it 3–2, and suddenly the Green Army believed there might still be something to take home from Coventry.
FCP pushed for the equaliser and had opportunities as the clock ticked down, but we just couldn’t find that final goal.
Full-time: Coventry Sphinx 3–2 FC Peterborough.
A disappointing afternoon.
FCP simply didn’t look right today. We’re missing some big players, but there also seemed to be a lack of the fight and passion we’ve become accustomed to seeing from this team.
Something needs to change to get some momentum back into the season.
There were at least some positives from the final stages, particularly the impact of David and young Ashley, but we can’t keep waiting until games are almost gone before finding that spark.
And it doesn’t get any easier.
Another away trip to the Midlands awaits next week, this time against Knowle FC.
A big performance is required.

There was only one nomination today…
The Cheesy Chips.
Unbeaten all afternoon. Never put a foot wrong. 10/10.
