FC Peterborough 4–1 Heacham
After last weekend’s disappointment in the FA Cup, attention quickly turned to the FA Vase. The FA Cup dream might be over, but there’s still another route to Wembley…
Could the Green Army really be planning a day out under the famous arch? Only about eight more wins to go!
FCP Take Complete Control
FC Peterborough started on the front foot and, in truth, the first half soon began to resemble a training session of attack versus defence.
FCP dominated possession, created chance after chance and spent most of the half camped in the Heacham half. The only frustration was that the scoreline didn’t quite reflect the dominance.
Toby in particular will probably be wondering how he didn’t get himself on the scoresheet after having a few very good opportunities.
Eventually, the breakthrough arrived.
1–0 – DAVID!
A lovely ball over the top from Lamin found David, who did the rest to put FCP deservedly ahead.
Then came number two.
2–0 – BIRTHDAY BOY JACK!
Jack marked his birthday in the perfect way, keeping his composure and producing a calm finish to double the lead.
At half-time, FCP were comfortably and deservedly ahead. If there was one criticism, it was that the game probably should have been put to bed already.
More of the Same
Heacham came out with a little more purpose after the break, but it didn’t last long before FCP took control again.
3–0 – DERICK!
Lamin was involved once again, grabbing his second assist of the afternoon. His delivery found Derick, who rose brilliantly to power a header past the keeper.
Three became four soon afterwards.
4–0 – AZIZ!
Aziz went on a good run before getting his shot away, with a deflection helping it beyond the Heacham keeper.
Game over. Next round incoming.
To their credit, Heacham did give their supporters something to cheer about with an absolute wonder strike.
4–1.
It was probably their only shot on target all afternoon – but what a it was. Alfie had barely had anything to do, and there wasn’t much he could do about that one either.
Fan Favourite Sees Red
There was still time for some late drama as Green Army fan favourite Zahid was shown a red card for allegedly denying a goalscoring opportunity.
Allegedly.
Having watched Heacham for the previous 80-odd minutes, the Green Army remain unconvinced there was actually any danger of them scoring from it…
FULL-TIME: FC PETERBOROUGH 4–1 HEACHAM
A strong and professional display from FCP against a Heacham side currently bottom of their league.
The only real disappointment will be that the winning margin wasn’t bigger, such was FCP’s dominance for large periods of the game.
But cup football is about one thing – getting your name into the next round.
And that is exactly what FCP have done.
The FA Cup journey might be over, but the FA Vase dream is very much alive.
Wembley, anyone?

Lamin
Two assists and at the heart of plenty of FCP’s best attacking play. A quality afternoon from Lamin and a deserved Green Army MOTM.
