The Green Army were back on the A14 with an away trip to Needham Market, a match the lads had been eagerly looking forward to, helped by Needham’s reputation for great hospitality. Thanks to Beverley and her team for the warm welcome and superb half-time refreshments!

There was even a guest appearance from legendary groundsman Jamie, who, for once, didn’t need to fetch stray footballs from wayward shots.

First Half
FC Peterborough started brightly, creating two early chances that were only just cleared off the line by the Needham defence. Derrick came close with a shot saved by the keeper’s feet, a chance that could have given us a 3-0 lead within the first 15 minutes.

After the initial flurry, the tempo dropped for both sides. Ayman had a decent attempt that went just wide, but FCP needed to make the most of those early chances to take control of the game.

Half-Time

Kudos to Beverley and her team for the outstanding hospitality – the hot chocolates were especially popular with our junior Green Army supporters.

Second Half

Goal!
Just minutes into the second half, FCP won a free kick. Micky’s cross found Toby, who tapped it in to put us in the lead.

Unfortunately, the celebration was short-lived, as Needham quickly equalised down the other end.

FCP regained the lead in style. Vito’s clever footwork took him past the Needham defence, setting up Derrick, who netted his 12th goal of the season.

Late in the half, FCP had a great chance to put the game to bed. Vito’s effort on target was solid, but Needham’s keeper pulled off a great save to keep them in the match.

In heartbreaking fashion, Needham found an equaliser in injury time, taking advantage of a lapse in composure at the back. A disappointing end to a hard-fought match.

Final Score: 2-2

A fair result on the balance of play, and missed out on all three points. These dropped points could prove costly in the push for a playoff spot.
