Second half comeback falls short for the reserves

Second half comeback falls short for the reserves

FC Roade 3-1 FC Peterborough Reserves

The match last Saturday against FC Roade in the Les Underwood Junior Cup unfolded as a story of two distinct halves. In the first half, we exhibited signs of nervousness and failed to showcase the style of football we are capable of. After squandering two clear scoring opportunities, we found ourselves conceding three goals within the first 15 minutes, all from set pieces.

Following the third goal, we made two strategic substitutions, which gradually allowed us to regain our footing in the match. By the end of the first half, we began to see an increase in possession and control.

The second half was undoubtedly ours. We came out strong, creating several promising chances to score, but their goalkeeper thwarted efforts from Snor and Jake. We continued to push forward and eventually found the net with a clever through ball to Jake, who finished expertly, narrowing the score to 3-1.

After Jake’s goal, we took charge of the game, maintaining the tempo until the final whistle, while the opposition focused solely on defense—a strategy that ultimately worked in their favor. Regrettably, we were unable to convert our remaining chances, and the match concluded with a score of 3-1.

Overall, last Saturday is a game we would prefer to quickly forget, but it serves as a valuable learning opportunity as we prepare for our next league match against Whittlesey Athletic Reserve, scheduled for next Saturday.
